Letter to the dissemination of scholarship opportunity for undergraduate students

Mitacs Inc. (http://www.mitacs.ca) is a Canadian national not-for-profit organization which aims  to  develop the next generation of innovators with vital scientific and business skills. It has agreements with businesses, Governments and educational institutions domestically and internationally.

The Mitacs Globalink program brings students from India, Brazil, Mexico and China to 29 Canadian universities for a 12 week research internship between May and September. Students receive valued exposure to world class researchers, meet Canadian entrepreneurs, government and business leaders, and have the opportunity to take part in professional skills workshops.
For  2013, Mitacs is negotiating an expanded agreement signed with CAPES and potentially with other institutions in Brazil to establish new relationships with top tier Brazilian universities, to strengthen academic exchanges and cooperation programs funded by both Governments, and to reinforce the framework agreement for cooperation in science, technology and innovation, signed between Canada and Brazil, in 2010.

For the moment, we would like to ask you to disclose the information below (and in attached file) to all departments,  professors and students of  UFG, so that your students are able to take advantage of this program. There are a limited number of placements available for students, and so they must apply and be evaluated prior to being admitted to this fully funded program. More information is available at www.mitacs.ca/globalink

We would like to know if the  UFG  is interested in participating in the Mitacs Globalink program. If so, we would be happy to  answer any questions you may have, or to discuss possible interests you may have for your students.

Letter to Professors and Students

This email is directed to Brazilian educators, with the objective to inform about a funded international research internship, in Canada, for excellent students between their third and fourth year of studies. This is an excellent opportunity for those students who are in the top 10% of your class.  Please, forward the following information to your students and other university professors.

The Canada-Brazil Framework Agreement for Cooperation on Science, Technology and Innovation entered into force in 2010, and one of its premises is to strengthen academic partnerships, exchanges and cooperation programs funded by both Governments.

The Mitacs Globalink research internship  hosted its first cohort in 2009, and currently operates with 29 Canadian universities, in partnership with Brazil, China, India and Mexico. The program hosted almost 40 students from Brazil in 2012, and is prepared to expand in 2013.  The goal for the next year  is to receive more than 375 international students from diverse academic fields.

The registration for the MITACS Globalink program - 2013 must be carried out through the address:http://www.mitacs.ca/globalink

·  This is a competitive program, with only the very best students being accepted each year
·  Students will be selected based on their excellence, including an evaluation of reference letters, application rationale, GPA (must be >8/10) and specific discipline strength
·  Students are expected to be able to stay in Canada for 10-12 weeks, working full time as researchers under the supervision of a Canadian professor
·  Although many of the opportunities are in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields, students from all courses can apply for the program.
 · Applications require submission of two (2) reference letters, and the academic transcript

This experience strengthens our Brazil-Canada research network by providing the Brazilian students with opportunities to interact with students from different nationalities, to work under the supervision of Canadian researchers, to collaborate with international researchers in universities of recognized prestige, and to build their skills through professional development workshops, industry presentations, and networking sessions. The program is about  three months long, enabling the students to participate without interfering too much in the course of the Brazilian academic year.
